New Boston will vote on budget, open positions

The New Boston School District Meeting is coming up on Feb. 9 and voters can look forward to a concise ballot.
Only two warrant articles are included on this year’s ballot, one for the budget and one for open positions.
School Board Chairman Diane Manson said the school board has proposed a budget of $8,220,277. This is a 5 percent increase from last year’s $7,819,365 budget.
Manson attributes the raise to negotiated increases for a few teachers and some sports staff as well as increased tuition for middle schoolers. Only one item is different in the budget for New Boston Central School.
“We need to add a special education teacher,” Manson said. “We only have one, and it is past time for an additional special education teacher. We felt it wasn’t adequate to meet students’needs.”
Open positions include a school district clerk, a moderator, a treasurer and two school board members. Manson and Vice-chairman Fred Hayes have decided not to run again.
“There are three great people left on the school board and it has traditionally been a wonderful board,” Manson said. “It is a very cohesive group and I am hoping that will continue.”
