Richard Hawes, 63, is being held on $200,000 bail after being arrested for alleged possession of sexually explicit photos of his 2-year-old granddaughter.

Five charges of child pornography have been brought against Hawes by the Manchester Police Department.

Hawes. granddaughter hadbeen the subject of national attention after photos were found by a drugstore employee and turned over to police. Photos of the "mystery girl" were posted in the national media. She was identified on Wednesday, June 8, after non-explicit pictures of her were shown on "Good Morning America." A relative saw the pictures and notified the toddler's parents in Florida, who called police.

Hawes was arrested at the Friendly Beaver Campground in New Boston, where he lives part of the year, by detectives Scott Fuller and James Flanagan of the Manchester Police Department.

When met by the detectives at the campground, Hawes spoke with them and let them into his trailer. They advised him that they were investigating a case that involved his granddaughter, and if he knew the reason they had come to see him. Hawes said that it was "something about some pictures."

The detectives also told Hawes that he was not under arrest, and he replied that didn't think he was under arrest because he didn't think that he had done anything wrong.

After speaking with Hawes, police took him to the New Boston Police department, where he waived his Miranda rights and agreed to a formal interview. He was then charged with the crime.

Hawes allegedly took the photos of his granddaughter while visiting relatives in Winterpark, Fla., in March.

Hawes told the police that he had given his granddaughter a bath and then posed her in sexually explicit poses and photographed her after becoming "amazed" and "fascinated" with her.

Police were tipped off by Samantha Moore, 17, an employee at CVS on 788 S. Willow St., who had been checking the memory on a self-service digital photo kiosk at the end of the day on May 24.

Hawes also attempted to print pictures at a CVS in Nashua, but police documents said "he became unnerved when he realized that the photos were actually being printed out behind the clerk.s counter, and hastily left the store."

A supervisor at the CVS was unable to comment.

A probable cause hearing for Hawes has been set for June 22.
