Goffstown's big bats beat Bedford in Matty Dobens Tournament
GOFFSTOWN – In their
first game of the Matty
Dobens Tournament, Goffstown
beat Bedford Gold, 14-
3.
In the home half of the first
inning, Goffstown used its
bats to get rolling, scoring
five runs with two outs. Kyle
Gauvin earned a free pass on
an error by the shortstop, followed
by a Tyler Perron base
on balls. A line drive shot by
Cody Fifty to right field, a
seeing-eye single over first
base by Brendan Reid and a
double to right-center plated
five runs in the frame.
In the second, Goffstown
scored another run on a leadoff
double by Aleks Holm,
who advanced home on a
single by Perron.
Through two innings,
Goffstown hurler Perron held
the Bedford offense in check,
only allowing two runners.
In the third, he allowed two
runs that were products of
walks. Still, he bounced back
to strike out the side.
At bat in the third, Regan
Morrow and Matt Garrison
collected back-to-back walks.
After advancing on passed balls, Morrow scored
on a fielder's choice to second off the bat of Chris
Garrison. A rip up the third base line by Perron
plated the second run of the inning.
Bedford made it interesting in the top of the
fourth, loading the bases against reliever Fifty. But
the guests only scored one run.
Catcher Morrow gunned the ball to third baseman
Reid who applied the tag on an attempted
theft. The second out came on a strikeout and the
third on a delayed steal of home. Fifty threw home
and Morrow applied the tag to thwart Bedford's
last real chance to score.
In the fourth inning, four walks, an error and
Gauvin's second hit plus Perron's third rip scored
six runs for Goffstown, resulting in a 10-run
mercy triumph.
Goffstown was scheduled to face Manchester
South on Tuesday, July 12, and Derry on Friday,
July 15.
