Seventh- and eighth-grade girls gearing up for playoffs

The Hooksett seventh- and eighth-grade travel team closed out the regular season with two victories recently.

On Saturday, Feb. 12, the girls defeated a tough Bedford squad, 43-38, at Cawley Gym. Mel Bourgeois and Sam Walker led the locals in scoring, while Megan Cournoyer, Lindsay Johnson and Kaitlin Kennedy played well defensively.

On Sunday, Feb. 13, Hooksett notched its 13th win of the season with a 44-38 win over Amherst at Amherst Middle School. Walker and Bourgeois again led the scoring, while Krista Lucas led the playoff-bound Hooksett team on the boards.

The Hooksett girls will attempt to defend last year’s title in the playoffs Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Derry Sportszone.

Third- and fourth-grade boys struggle in round-robin tourney

Londonderry 31 – Hooksett 14 Londonderry scored the game’s final 13 points to break open close contest and win the first game of the round-robin tournament. Rick Prindiville put up six points and pulled down five rebounds for Hooksett. Tony Vazquez added four.

Cam Lombardi had eight points for Londonderry.

Derry 28 – Hooksett 25 Riley Cote tallied nine points for Hooksett, but it wasn’t enough. Tyler Gahara had five points and Vazquez netted four in the tight defeat.

Jon McDade had 12 points for Derry, including 6-for-6 shooting from the charity stripe.

Pelham 38 – Hooksett 29 Despite its highest-scoring game of the year, Hooksett was match for the hot hands of Pelham. Cote put in seven points for Hooksett, Prindiville added five, and Tanner Walls scored four. Prindiville, Joshua Wilson and Vazquez pulled down most of the boards. Wilson and Vazquez each added three points.

Joe Tuscano put up 13 points for Pelham.

With this loss, Hooksett moves to the semifinal as the fourth seed on Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Sports Zone in Derry.
