DS girls, coaches honored

Following a surprising run to the Class S girls basketball state title game, athletes and coaches from the Derryfield School were named to numerous post-season all-star teams.

Leading the way was Kendra Decelle. The DS guard was named the New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Organization's Class S Player of the Year. In addition, Decelle was named to the Granite State Conference South Senior All-Star Team, NHBCO Granite Games Class S Senior All-Star Team and the Granite State South All-Conference First Team. She also earned the Derryfield Class of '70 Award.

Her coach, Ed Lemire, was picked as the NHBCO's Class S Varsity Coach of the Year, while Monty Burge was named the NHBCO's Class S Sub-varsity Coach of the Year for his work with the Cougars' junior varsity squad. Lemire also coached the Granite State Conference South Senior All-Star Team and NHBCO Granite Games Class S Senior All-Star Team, while assistant coach Michelle Coombes joined Lemire at the NHBCO Granite Games.

Lemire and David Haight were inducted into the New Hampshire Coaches Association Hall of Fame on March 20.

Other DS players honored this year included Tory Starr, who earned a New Hampshire Commission on the Status of Women Award. She was also picked to join Decelle on the Granite State Conference South Senior All-Star Team.

Rachel Romanowsky, who was named co-captain for next year's team along with Molly Lyford, was a Granite State South All-Conference First Team pick, as well as an NHBCO All-State Second Team selection.

Stephanie Foote was an NHBCO All-State Honorable Mention pick.

The NHBCO All-Academic Team included Decelle, Starr, Lyford and Katt Bolduc.
