A 17-year-old from Chester was lucky to escape his burning car alive, said Auburn Fire Chief Bruce Phillips.

The teen lost control of his car on Manchester Road by Severance Beach, said Phillips, shearing a pole and bringing electrical wires down on the car. The car caught fire as the electricity made contact.

"Why he didn't get killed getting out of that car, we don't know," said Phillips.

The crash happened Sunday, Dec. 11, around 1:30 p.m.

No charges have been brought against Derek Worsham but the crash is still under investigation, said Auburn Lt. David Flight.
