Manchester In pool, Rapids set records
The Manchester Rapids swim team, with athletes from Auburn, Bedford, Bow, Concord and Hooksett, recently hosted the second annual Senior Distance meet at Southern New Hampshire University. For several swimmers, the Nov. 26 race marked their first distance event, resulting in many personal records (PR) and qualifying times for the New England Championships later this season. Katie Aldrich, 12, and Kelsey Ewing, 12, met the time standard and set PRs in four events. Both girls swam well in the 400-meter individual medley (IM) and 200-meter backstroke. Aldrich also qualified with a PR in the 200-meter freestyle, while Kelsey Ewing swam the 200-meter breaststroke fast enough to make the standard. Abigail Mitchell, 12, met the time standard for New Englands in the 200-meter breaststroke. Carter Pribis, 12, and Milan Sandhu, 11, each qualified in two events. Pribis met the required time in the 400-meter IM and 200-meter back, while Milan qualified in the 400-meter IM and 200-meter breaststroke. Swimmers recording PRs in the morning session included Adam Baillargeon, 13, Hayley Berg, 12, Anna Buchta, 17, Amy Burke, 17, Leah Burke, 15, Heather Cirka, 17, Maria Colella, 14, Jen Corriveau, 16, Katie Donovan, 13, Scott Ewing, 17, Jackie Foster, 17, Matt Goczalk, 14, Ashley Green, 16, Richard Jenkins, 13, Marissa Lynn, 15, Stephanie Lynn, 13, Kerry McCann, 15, Sean McCann, 15, Faith Meads, 14, Elizabeth Morin, 12, and Brian Volonte, 17. In the afternoon session, 18 swimmers competed in the 1,500-meter free. Green turned in the fastest time of 19-minutes, 18.97 seconds.
