Local students get awards at UNH
The academic achievements of three local students were among those recently recognized by the University of New Hampshire’s College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Scholarship sponsors, friends and faculty members gathered in May at the university’s Memorial Union Building to honor 179 recipients of scholarships and awards. Endowments and contributions by alumni and friends of the college made possible awards and scholarships totaling $250,000 this year, said Dean Joseph Klewicki. Mechanical engineering junior Kristen J. Kelso of Candia, received the Society of Women Engineers Award and the William H. Champlin Jr. Scholarship. A graduate of Central High School in Manchester, Kelso is the daughter of David and Nancy Kelso of Candia. Civil engineering sophomore Walter L. Durack V of Epsom, received the NHSPE State Scholarship and the John B. and Martha M.W. Zocchi Scholarship. Homeschooled, Durack is the son of Walter and Gretchen Durack of Epsom. Mechanical engineering junior Adam Filion of Hooksett, received the John B. and Martha M.W. Zocchi Scholarship.
