CANDIA
Teacher resigns
Cloud of suspicion hangs over case By Nicholas Brown The Candia School Board recently accepted the resignation of Richard Andersen, a longtime Moore School teacher who was removed from the school in April, after publicly undisclosed allegations. Local police said a criminal investigation of Andersen, who most recently taught middle school science classes, may soon wrap up, and Candia police officer Dan Gray said, “We don’t anticipate any charges to be filed.” Gray said Candia police, state police, the Rockingham County attorney’s office and the Child Advocacy Center which assists in interviewing children have all been involved in the investigation. “We pretty much have all the investigation we need,” he said. The Candia School Board accepted Andersen’s resignation at its Thursday, June 1, meeting. School and district administrators have fielded some criticism over the past few months, since Andersen was first removed from the school. A note went home to Moore School parents announcing his removal. Some parents suggested publicly that Andersen was treated unfairly by administrators. In a recent phone interview, SAU 15 Superintendent Armand LaSelva, citing RSA 189, said the teacher’s removal was in accordance with state statutes. “I felt my first responsibility was to the students and to make sure we had a safe school,” said LaSelva.
