HOOKSETT
Hooksett man lost off MS Mt. Washington
By Nicholas Brown As of press time, rescue workers were still searching a mile-long stretch of Lake Winnipesaukee for a Hooksett man who fell off a cruise ship on Saturday, Oct. 28. James Sylvestre, 45, fell overboard from the MS Mount Washington at about 10 p.m. during a Halloween-themed cruise, said New Hampshire Fish and Game Lt. Jim Goss. Extreme winds prevented rescue workers from searching for Sylvestre for more than a day, said Goss. “The conditions weren’t safe,” he said. On Tuesday, Oct. 31, Fish and Game divers were searching an area about one mile long and 90 feet wide, Goss said. A New Hampshire State Police helicopter was also searching shorelines and some surface water. Connecticut State Police joined the search by contributing two troopers and a 25-foot search boat specially fitted with side sonar, said Goss. As of Tuesday afternoon, the search hadn’t yielded any results, said Goss. “We’re going to keep searching until dark tonight,” he said. “If we don’t find anything, we’ll start again tomorrow.”
